Shlomo Carlebach.

Reb or Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach was born January 14, 1925 into a family with a tradition of Jewish leadership. He wrote many religious songs, putting traditional liturgy to music. He was also known for his stories and teaching.

On October 21, 1994 while en route to Canada, Carlebach died of heart failure. His body was flown to Israel for burial at Har HaMenuchot. During the funeral the mourners sang Carlebach's songs.

Today Carlebach is considered by many to be one of the most famous Jewish songwriters of the 20th century.

In Hebrew his name is written as: שלמה קרליבך
