Since the Diaspora, Jews have lived in many different places around the world. Like "American" food, the result is a culinary mix. Ingredients that were available in one place were not always available or affordable in another location, so recipes were adjusted. Some items were adjusted to meet the dietary rules of kashrut. Other dishes became associated with certain holidays.
